How to Write a Job Ad That Attracts Talent in Ireland

· 7 min read · TalentFinder Ireland

Most job adverts are written for the employer's org chart, not the candidate's search box. Here's the structure that consistently pulls applications in the Irish market, drawn from what performs across the adverts we write and distribute.

1. The title candidates type, not the one HR uses

"Customer Experience Executive Grade II" gets found by nobody. "Customer Service Representative — Dublin 2" gets found by everyone searching either phrase. Use the plain-market name for the role, add the location, and save internal titles for the contract.

2. Lead with what they get

The first two lines decide whether anyone keeps reading. Candidates scan for: pay signals, location/hybrid arrangement, and one concrete reason the job is attractive. Put those first. The company history paragraph can wait.

3. Be honest about salary

Adverts with a realistic salary range consistently outperform "competitive salary" in application volume and quality. If you genuinely can't publish a figure, give candidates something to anchor on — "package negotiable, reviewed against market benchmarks" — and be ready to discuss it at first contact.

4. Six bullet points, not sixteen

List the must-have requirements only. Every nice-to-have you add filters out a good applicant who took the list literally — a filter that hits harder with candidates from under-represented groups, who apply only when they match everything.

5. Write for mobile

Most applications now start on a phone. Short paragraphs, subheadings, bullet lists. If your advert is a wall of text, it reads as a wall of text on a 6-inch screen — and gets skipped.

6. Close with a low-friction call to action

"Apply with your CV — applications reviewed daily" sets the expectation that a human responds quickly. Then honour it: the best candidates are typically off the market within days, and slow responders lose them to whoever moved first.
