Where should I post job ads in Ireland?

Published · 3 min read · TalentFinder Ireland

Short answer

The main places to post job ads in Ireland are Indeed, IrishJobs.ie, Jobs.ie, LinkedIn, and Glassdoor. Indeed gets the largest volume of Irish candidates and has a free tier alongside paid promotion. IrishJobs.ie and Jobs.ie are Irish-specific and work well for roles outside Dublin. LinkedIn is strongest for professional and managerial roles. Posting on multiple boards simultaneously through a managed advertising package typically costs less than buying each board separately.

Where to post job ads in Ireland

There is no single board that wins for every role. The right mix depends on the salary, the location, and the type of candidate you need. Below is an honest summary of the main options.

The main job boards

BoardBest forFree tier?Typical paid cost
IndeedVolume; all sectorsYes (organic)Variable; rises with competition
IrishJobs.ieIrish candidates; regional rolesNoMarket rate per post
Jobs.ieGeneral; SME-friendlyNoMarket rate per post
LinkedInProfessional, managerial, technicalYes (limited)Higher cost per post
GlassdoorEmployer-brand-aware candidatesVia IndeedBundled with Indeed

Indeed dominates raw traffic in Ireland. If you only post on one board, Indeed is usually the starting point. That said, purely organic Indeed listings can get buried quickly without paid promotion.

IrishJobs.ie and Jobs.ie both index well on Google for Irish searches and tend to attract candidates who are actively looking rather than passively browsing. For roles outside Dublin — Cork, Galway, Limerick, and elsewhere — these two boards often outperform LinkedIn on volume.

LinkedIn is worth paying for if the role is at a level where candidates are not actively job-hunting but might respond to a visible advert. For a junior or operational role, the cost-per-application on LinkedIn is usually hard to justify.

Posting on multiple boards at once

Buying each board individually adds up. A managed advertising package that distributes your listing across several boards simultaneously can work out cheaper and saves the administrative overhead of logging into each platform separately.

Our own advertising packages are priced at €499 (Premium) and €599 (Premium Plus). See what is included in each package for the board coverage and the difference between the two tiers.

What advertising alone does not do

Job board advertising works well for roles where candidates are actively looking. It works less well when:

  • The role is senior or specialised and the right person is already employed elsewhere
  • The labour market for that skill is tight and few candidates are searching
  • You need the role filled quickly and cannot afford to wait for applications to come in

For those situations, direct search — identifying and approaching candidates who are not applying — tends to produce better results than advertising, though it costs more. See our guide to searching for talent in Ireland for a longer explanation of when each method makes sense.

When to handle it yourself versus using a service

If you are comfortable writing a job advert, posting it yourself on Indeed (free) and one paid Irish board is a perfectly reasonable starting point. There is no reason to pay for help if you have the time and the role is straightforward.

If you want broader board coverage without managing each platform, or if previous adverts have not attracted the right candidates, a managed advertising package is worth considering. If the role is not filled through advertising, our managed search service takes over the sourcing directly — the fee covers the search, not just the posting.

Our managed search: fees and what happens if we do not fill the role

For employers who want a fully managed hire rather than just an advert, our fixed fees by salary band are:

Salary bandOur fee
Up to €29,999€1,800
€30,000 – €44,999€2,300
€45,000 – €59,999€3,300
€60,000 and above€4,300

If we do not fill the role, you receive a 100% refund — your money back, not a further attempt.

By way of comparison, a contingency agency typically charges 15–25% of first-year salary, payable only if they place someone. Most also offer a rebate period if the hire leaves early. That model may suit you better if you would rather pay nothing unless a hire is made; we concede that point plainly.

Frequently asked questions

Is Indeed free for Irish employers?

Indeed allows you to post a basic listing at no cost, but organic listings can receive limited visibility in competitive categories. Paid promotion raises the listing's position and is priced by budget rather than a fixed per-post fee, so costs vary depending on how much competition there is for candidates in your sector.

Which job board works best outside Dublin?

IrishJobs.ie and Jobs.ie tend to perform well for regional roles, partly because they rank strongly on Google for location-specific searches. LinkedIn's reach is thinner outside Dublin for most non-managerial roles, and the cost per application tends to be higher.

What is the difference between job board advertising and a managed search?

Job board advertising puts your vacancy in front of candidates who are actively searching. A managed search involves identifying and approaching people who are not applying anywhere — useful when the candidate pool for a role is small or when the right person is already in employment elsewhere. Advertising is cheaper; managed search is more targeted. The right choice depends on the role.

Do I need to post on every board to get good coverage?

No. For most roles, two or three well-chosen boards will cover the majority of active candidates. Adding more boards has diminishing returns and multiplies the admin involved in managing applications. A combined advertising package that distributes a single listing across several boards is usually more practical than buying each board individually.
